Abstract

This study is focused towards the removal of dirt that causes clogging of filtering system in highland irrigation. The combination of using the solar energy as a power source to operate this filter system shows it novelty. Residents in rural areas especially in highland area need clean water sources for agricultural or daily use. However, topography and weather conditions often cause the quality of natural water resources become less favourable while the open reservoir system can cause garbage collection from the environment that will be the cause of a clogged filter. Their rural area at remote site make it difficult to get water and electricity resources. This study is produced a filtration system that can solve the problem of filter clogging with debris. The filtering system is contained electrical motor, power screw, limit switches, controller box and fixture that purposely design to removing dirt that stick on outlet point of highland reservoir. The electrical power that generated from solar panel is connected with battery extraction in controller box which designed with electrical circuit and relay action for generating the forward and backward movement of the brushes during dirt removing process. Maximum use of natural resources such as hills water resources and sunlight can be reduce of management costs and protect the environment from pollution. The result from this study is producing a prototype containing filter for highland irrigation with use of the solar energy. In addition, the solar system is also capable of storing solar energy for use of motor in filtration systems although not receive direct sunlight for a week.
