Abstract

In this paper we argue that there is a positive relationship between the employees’ emotional intelligence and societal orientation in a not for profit institution. The data were solicited from public health care institutions in Malaysia. Factor analysis was performed to determine the underlying factors of emotional intelligent and societal orientation before proceeding to applying SEM to the data set. The findings show that the hypothesized model fits the sample data adequately. Thus, public health care institutions should focus on developing employees emotional intelligence when designing their human resource development program in order to achieve a societal orientation.
