Abstract

This is a critical analysis of the ideas, thought and contributions of Ahmad Ibrahim, the pioneer Islamic legal jurist in Malaysia . This study reveals that Ahmad Ibrahim, by his vast legal knowledge and experience, both as an academic as well as a practitioner, had manage to structure an integrated study of law, whereby the study of Islamic law and civil law were combined and taught in one faculty. This landmark reform was a departure from the then practice that demarcated the study of Islamic law from that of civil law. This reform also mark the assimilation of the study of Islamic law into mainstream legal education in Malaysia, and inadvertently create an awareness for its importance. Ahmad Ibrahim’s legacy lives on today as our local universities have adopted his reformation of legal education. Keywords: Ahmad Ibrahim, reform, study, law
